One of two Lewis family overpainted opalotype photographic portraits. Originally believed to be John Lewis, 1844-1923, but confirmed as John's father James Lewis of Richmond South Australia. He married Eliza Margaret Hutton Bristow who is pictured in the opalotype at PRG 247/27/1. Both opalotypes have the annotation 'Brown 79' in the top left hand corner, indicating the creator and date of creation.
