Captain Weir, wearing naval dress uniform. Captain Patrick Weir, Port Adelaide Harbormaster. The son of Alexander and Isabella Weir, Patrick was born at Stonehaven, Scotland. He went to Sea at the age of 15 on the Craigendarroch. In 1879 he was mate on the Monalite when he left the vessel at Port Adelaide to become second officer on the Governor Musgrave. On 14 March 1882 he married Helen Christie. He owned the tug Ariel and the steamer Argyll. He later rejoined the Governor Musgrave as Captain. On the outbreak of the Boxer Rebellion he volunteered and was appointed lieutenant on the Protector. In 1915 in command of the Protector he was sent to Cocos Island to see if the German cruiser Emden could be salvaged, after which in the same year he was appointed Port Adelaide harbor master. He retired in June 1925.
