Richard Anstice Perkins aged 2, arrived in South Australia with his parents in 1840 on board "Java". He later helped his parents with their farm at Blackiston, near Mount Barker. He frequently saw bullock teams stuck in Hindley Street and often fed his own bullocks under the gum trees growing where the Arcade is now. He married Elizabeth Amelia Orr, they had nine children and lived at Mount Gambier. In 1877 he was made Overseer of the Government Experimental Farm at Mt Muirhead. He was an expert agriculturalist and well respected in the district. After his work at the Experimental Farm he took up land at Albacutya near Rainbow in the Mallee

John Randall Phillips

John Randall Phillips (1832-1917) Best known for his sheep farming property called Kanyaka, 60 miles north east of Port Augusta. He built the Great Northern Hotel at Kanyaka township which was popular with teamsters and travellers until its closure in 1881. He was well known at the Commerecial Travellers' Club in Adelaide in his later years.

Captain Pickhills arrived in Bourke on the "Gemini" with Captain Randall in 1861, but as late as 1908 he was interviewed by CW Bean. At the time he was Inspector of Marine Crafts at the Port of Bourke. About 1896 he was Captain of the "Sturt". He died 13th August 1912 at Bourke.

Arthur William Piper was born July 5, 1865 at Faversham in Kent. Elder son of Rev. Thomas Piper. Brought to South Australia in 1870. Won a scholarship to Prince Alfred College 1877. Admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court in 1886. KC in 1911. Judge of Supreme Court 1927. In 1894 joined the Council of Prince Alfrerd College. Supported Norwood's sporting bodies. Died of cancer in 1936 and buried in Mitcham Cemetery. Known as an academic, barrister, judge and federationist.

George Henry Pitt

George Henry Pitt, librarian, archivist and historian was born at Norwood and attended Rose Park and Norwood public schools. He won a scholarship to Prince Alfred College. He published 'Alphabetical List of Serial Publications: Scientific, Technical and Historical' in 1914. He listed all the records held in the Mitchell Library, Sydney and the Public Library of South Australia. He was appointed archivist in 1919, the first professional archivist appointed in Australia. In 1942 archival services closed and Pitt was appointed Librarian in Charge of the planned Adelaide Lending Service. He assembled and catalogued 11,000 books and lending began in 1946. Pitt set up libraries in government departments and established services for children.

Elliot Frank Playford

Elliot Frank Playford

Elliot Frank Playford was born at Norton Summit on 12 October 1876. He was the son of Thomas Playford and Mary Jane Kinsman, one of 6 boys and 5 girls. During his military career he graduated to Major Elliot Frank Playford OBE. He enlisted in 1916 and served in France and England. He was Camp Commandant of the Westham Camp for the 43rd Battalion. As a civil servant he was a draughtsman with the Registrar General Department in Adelaide and accepted a position as draughtsman in the Lands Department in Northern Territory in Palmerston. He married Ethel Playford and had three children and they lived on Osmond Terrace at Norwood.
