Jetty at Narrung. The figure in the overcoat is the Reverend George Taplin, Superintendent of Point McLeay Mission. The Point McLeay Mission Station (1859-1974) was established at Lake Alexandrina by the Aborigines' Friends' Association in 1859. In the background of this photograph the Point Malcolm Lighthouse can be seen. This is situated at Narrung on the narrow entrance from Lake Alexandrina into Lake Albert and was built in 1878. It is Australia's only inland lighthouse.

Poonindie Mission Church of St Matthews (with Mr J.D.Bruce in trap in foreground) In 1850 Archdeacon Mathew Hale established a Christian training institution for Aboriginal people adjacent to the Tod River at Poonindie. The community produced very good shearers, ploughmen and stockmen who were sought after by local settlers. The Mission closed in 1889/90 and the Poonindie people were relocated to Point Pearch and Point McLeay.

Poonindie Mission was established by the Church of England in 1850 and was located near Port Lincoln. It was originally a training institution for young Aboriginal people from various localities. When the lease was surrended in 1894 most of the residents moved to Point Pearce and Point McLeay Mission Stations. The photograph shows a township consisting of St Matthew's Church, buildings and several cottages surrounded by a railing fence.

Poonindie Station worked by Aboriginals. Note on the back of the photograph says "Minister Reverend Holden. Overseer Newland (Simpson Newland family) Church with chimney used as a residence by Bishop Hale. Bricks for church pugged with bullocks" . In 1848 the first bishop of Adelaide Augustus Short arrived in the colony with his Archdeacon Mathew Hale. They set out to educate the Aboriginal people in Christian values. In 1850 Hale set up his training institution on the River Tod at Poonindie and distributed rations to the local Aboriginal people. The centre became a close knit community and many Poonindie men became very good shearers, ploughmen and stockmen, also good cricketers. Later when the mission closed the residents moved to Point Pearce and Point McLeay.

Opening of the first traffic bridge over the Tod River at Poonindie with footbridge in the foreground. The footbridge was built by local handyman. Both bridges now out of use and replaced with concrete structure. Poonindie Mission Station can be seen in the background. Printing blocks for publications

This series comprises 69 printing blocks created for the photographic images in the publications published by the Aborigines' Friends' Association, such as annual reports, annual reviews, quarterly reports, and other publications and articles. Each block contains a metal print plate with a wooden base, depicting subjects including missionaries, Australian Aboriginal people on missions or pastoral stations, and Australian Aboriginal life in the early and mid-twentieth century. Queen, Paddle Steamer - on left in 1868 when propelled by a stern wheel and in 1932 on the right. The back of this photograph contains a newspaper clipping from the Chronicle May 19, 1932 detailing the "Queen's" long service. A portion of this is "Captain Peckhills was master of her, and she ran a three-weekly trip between Goolwa and Wentworth with passengers and cargo. When the Duke of Edinburgh came out in the Galatea, he was taken over the lakes in the "Queen" for a kangaroo hunt and to witness a corroborie at Point McLeay".

P.S. Bourke. According to a researcher, Captain George Wallace captained this boat while working for the Chaffey brothers at Renmark and Mildura. He also captained the 'Dispatch' across Lake Alexandrina mail run for 20 years. Saved 11 lives. He is buried at Milang cemetery. His brother John Wallace was also a river captain. Another researcher has provided the following information: 'This is the North Adelaide Cricket team which, over Easter of 1895, took a trip to Murray Bridge, Milang and Point McLeay.'

Hunting party at Milang. A researcher has provided the following information: "...I believe the man in the centre of the second row (where another gentleman rests his hands on his shoulders) is J. R. Anderson; the gentleman sitting third from the left in the second row is J. E. Craigie. The man standing third from the right, looking rather dapper, is E.G. Phillips. The fifth gentleman appears to be W.J. Hoath (back row, third from left)." Another researcher added more information: 'This is the North Adelaide Cricket team which, over Easter of 1895, took a trip to Murray Bridge, Milang and Point McLeay. The team included a future Australian Test captain Clem Hill (seated towards the left ot the grooup, between and slightly behind the chap in light dress who is sitting furthest left and the seasoned chap in the striped blazer). Others in the group included South Australian cricketers A. Wilkinson, J.E. Craigie, F. Jarvis (standing back right), A.M. Pettinger and E.G. Phillips. The party included De Mole, Bayer, Sadler, Finlayson, Kilsby and Mayfield [plus Hoath, Dailey and Anderson].
