Locomotive at Adelaide Railway Station

Locomotive at Adelaide Railway Station

Half-plate glass negative of a train pulled by locomotive arriving at Adelaide Railway Station. The Fowlers 'Lion' factory is to the left and the Morphett Street bridge behind the train. According to a researcher, the locomotive class is 600 not 500. This can be verified by the air receiver being partly above the running board to clear the larger driving wheels fitted to the 600 class locomotives, this feature of the higher mounted air receiver was only seen on the 600 class. Also the number "602" is inscribed in chalk on small toolbox on pilot beam suggesting that it is in fact locomotive 602.

South Australian Railways express cars

South Australian Railways express cars

South Australian Railways broad gauge express cars 116. A researcher has provided the following information: "This is a Mann Boudoir Car. It is broad gauge and was purchased for the Overland service. Cars 116 and 117 entered SAR-exclusive service in 1908. 116 was fitted with electric lighting and one end was altered to an observation car profile for departmental inspection tours, in 1909. It was renamed 'Willochra' in 1910 and retained in that service until 1933 when it was officially condemned, though reports exist of it having been part of the 1934 Royal Tour Pilot Train. The car was sold to Rofe and Co in 1935. Willochra was on the old Narrow Gauge Northern Line and this coach could not have possibly visited there."
