Jetty, Largs Bay

Largs Bay Jetty. In 1882 the Largs Bay seaside resort was opened. This included a jetty, a luxury hotel, a railway line connecting to the Fort Glanville line, and six shops. The jetty was an impressive 2100 feet in length. Over the years the jetty has been shortened after storm damage.The photograph shows people on the sand at low water. Thick dried seaweed covers the beach at the high tide mark

Largs Bay Jetty with steam launch "Defiance" alongside. Defiance was a screw steamer built in New South Wales in 1881 with a tonnage of 64 gross tons. The vessel was registered at Port Adelaide from 1899 and later, while owned by the Adelaide Steam Tug Company, she was broken up in 1930
