The older man sitting on the chair may be the explorer John McKinlay, who lived at Oaklands with his wife Jane Pile and her family. He died in December 1872.

Family album of the Hursthouse Family
The album contains photographs relating primarily to the life of John Wilson Hursthouse (1913-1945) including family camping holidays to the South-East, Yorke Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula between 1925-1930; schooling at Queen's School, North Adelaide, and Roseworthy Agricultural College, Boy Scouts, Army training at Kapunda Military camp, shearing at Middle Camp near Cowell and Elbow Hill (1934-1936); wheat harvesting at Gum Park, Yongala 1937; and training as an RAAF pilot at Parafield Aerodrome. The album includes a family portrait of John (Jack) with his parents Calvert Fearon Hursthouse and Lilian Ethel (nee Preshaw), and his siblings Helen Mary and Harold Richmond (Dick). Another photograph includes his son David as a child.

Anlaby Homestead
[General description] This is the homestead at Anlaby Station, Kapunda, taken from some way off to fit in the house and outbuildings. Set among gum trees on the left is the main house with the family gathered on the verandah for the photographer (hard to make out because of the distance). Other station buildings are nearby. Anlaby was settled in 1839 by John Finniss and acquired by Frederick Dutton in 1841.

Anlaby Homestead
Anlaby homestead in the 1860s. Frederick Hansborough Dutton took the lease on the property near Kapunda and named it Anlaby for a village in Yorkshire, the village of his sister's husband. Analby Station is the oldest merino stud in Australia and plays an important part in South Australia's history. The Duttons ran it as a grand English estate employing seventy staff. The property contained forty large outbuildings including a manor house, huge shearing shed and impressive stable block.
