Chain of Ponds Institute

Chain of Ponds Institute. This photograph was taken 15th July, 1933. The town was first settled in 1840's and was situated between Inglewood and Gumeracha. Most of town was demolished in 1970's to make way for the Millbrook Reservoir.

The Mill, Eden Valley. The steam driven flour mill was built by Mr Randell of Gumeracha. The township of Eden Valley was founded in the 1850's. The photograph shows piles of firewood stacked against the three storey flour mill. A tall chimney stands next to this.

Theodore E. Day

Theodore E. Day, Surveyor General was born at Gumeracha and died at Clare. He reported on the construction of the rabbit-proof fence. He became Chief Surveyor in the Lands and Survey Department in 1919 and Surveyor General in 1921. He was a strong advocate for the north south railway link.

Mr. William Mahood: Founder of Waterloo Township. According to a researcher, he was born in County Cavan, Ireland, in 1821 to John Mahood and Catherine Wallace Mahood. Arrived in S.A. in 1840 on 'Mary Dugdale'. Lived Willunga, Gawler, Stockwell, Gumeracha, Marrabel, Waterloo S.A., then Broken Hill, then Cue W.A. Married Jane Smith. They had 9 children. Died Cue 1901.
