W. A. L. Wolter

Wilhelm Adolph Ludwig Wolter (of the River Murray). Wilhelm Wolter, Master Mariner, arrived at Port Adelaide aboard the brigantine 'Adolph' from Hamburg in 1863. He died at Victor Harbor in 1933. He was a pioneer on the River Murray Steamers with 53 years experience. He was born at St Pauli, suburb of Hamburg and served in windjammers and vessels on the Indian coast and later sailers in the South Australian trade. He led an adventurous life before landing at Port Adelaide in 1863. On arrival he worked as a mason before venturing to Goolwa to work on Murray Steamers. He became a Captain and owned the steamer 'Pilot'.

Finniss Bridge

Finniss Bridge

Finniss Bridge between Goolwa and Strathalbyn. A researcher has stated that the bridge was "Built in 1866 and opened by the Governor Sir Dominic Daly on 24th March. The bridge was destroyed by a bushfire in 1882 and replaced with an iron girder bridge in 1884 using the girders from the Finniss River Railway Bridge at Finniss. The photograph was probably taken on the day the bridge was opened in 1866".

Halifax Street, south side, 19th June 1964, frontage of Christadelphian Temple is 15 yards. The Christadelphian Temple built in 1927 by Emmett & Sons Ltd. Far side of Christadelphian Temple is 32 yards west of Stevens Street. Members of this church started to meet at Goolwa in 1880. In 1908 members took over Willard Hall in Wakefield Street before moving to their new premises in Halifax Street in 1927
