Prawn fleet, Lincoln Cove

Prawn fleet, Lincoln Cove

Prawning fleet at the Lincoln Cove Marina, Port Lincoln. The photographer describes prawn fishing, "Port Lincoln is one of the most beautiful towns on the Eyre Peninsula, Lincoln Cove is the jewel in the crown. On the day I made this image I had been looking around the harbour at the new housing developments that were taking place in this new part of the town. I came across this fleet of prawning boats, another big industry in South Australia. I was amazed at the size of the boats and the equipment and technology involved in each vessel, every vessel worth millions of dollars. I sat for an hour with some of the crew members whilst they spliced the lines ready for the start of the prawning season the following week. Some of them were saying that since the mining boom they were finding it hard to crew the boats as men found it more lucrative to work in the mines."

Every good country town has a burnout in front of the local pub. While I was out fishing with the oyster farmers I mentioned the doughnut to one of the fishermen and he started laughing and said his best mate, testing out his new Holden Ute, had done it. I asked if he had got away with it and Mitch said, No he hadn't because they now have camera in the main street so the police tracked him down and he received a heavy fine."
