Bogged in Ninety Mile Desert

Bogged in Ninety Mile Desert

A car bogged in the Ninety Mile Desert. Photographer Rudolf Lange described the situation: 'In 1956 I was a newly arrived migrant working with a Lands Department survey team in the Ninety Mile Desert, a vast area of mallee scrub in the South-East of South Australia. We came across this bogged car in an isolated spot with it's driver contemplating what he should do. I was struck by his relaxed attitude to what was a very difficult situation. I subsequently saw this attitude often and came to know it as a characteristic Aussie "she'll be right, mate" approach to overcoming difficulties. And, in this case it was because we pulled him out'.
