The head of a man with the initials ROH which has been carved on to a tree used by Aborigines to cut out a canoe, possibly in north western South Australia. It is thought to be a memorial to explorer Robert O'Hara Burke, carved on a tree at Cooper Creek, located 30 metres from the 'Dig Tree'. The work was executed by John Dick, a travelling photographer, and his wife Minnie Ghyn Thompson in November 1898.

One has two adults and a child posing for the camera in front of a tree. Also includes contact prints. Two of the contact prints show State Library staff members.

Thirty three black and white prints, (20.5 cm x 15.5 cm) of the removal of a canoe tree from the side of the Murray River at Mannum on the 15th March 1967. A prefabricated, padded cradle was erected around the tree to enable it to be lowered to the ground by a mobile crane. The tree was taken to the SA Museum for preservation. Also includes forty contact prints.

Photographs taken by H.G. Watson of Ceduna of trips of exploration to the caves of the Nullarbor Plain in 1935. Also includes scenes of the Duke of Gloucester's train visit to Ooldea in 1934, his meeting with Daisy Bates and a corroboree performance arranged for him by local Aboriginal people. (NOTE: captions used for 143-149 are those from the album and do not reflect current appropriate use of language.) At the back of the album is a manuscript account of 'Trip to Eucla', a 'Chronicle' newspaper report of the 1935 cave exploration, and a newspaper cutting photograph from The Mail, Saturday 3 April 1937 (page 2) showing a cave with members of an exploration party headed by Mr H. A miscellaneous collection of mounted photographs relating to exploration of South Australia and the Northern Territory, including several unidentified outback stations, a group portrait of Aboriginal people of Port Lincoln ca. 1900, and maritime topics. A selection have been digitised. Photographs 3, 5-7 are albumen prints of etchings by Frederick Nixon, 1845 duplicating copies held elsewhere in the Pictorial Collection. A photograph of the 'Lusitania, Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW', Excelsior Photo Company' and an interesting series of nineteenth century photos of Tarputree Hindu temples, India with views of Gopuram, Mundapum with lion figures, and a stone car or chariot drawn by horses, are included.
