WILLUNGA: From Volume One of an album. A very early view of the Bangor Slate Quarries more commonly known as the Australian Slate Quarries. A slate cutting machine can be seen on the immediate left of the shed. The shed apparently contained more machines as the square holes in the wall were generally used for disposal of the off cuts [copy of B 24135].

WILLUNGA: Bill Meverley and Jack Kernick demonstrate the splitting of slate for roofing. They used a wooden mallet which lessened the shattering effect of hammering. The view was taken on the Official Opening Day of the Australian Slate Quarries Following a 18,000 pound upgrade.
