S.S. Sorata on rocks

Built in Glasgow in 1872 the Orient Line S.S. Sorata sailing from Port Adelaide to Melbourne under the command of Osbertus Graham Fowler ran onto rocks south of Cape Jervis on the evening of the 3rd September 1880. All her 368 passengers were transhipped to steam tugs, &c., and sent back to Port Adelaide; and nearly all of her cargo was saved, although some of it was considerably damaged. She remained on the rocks until 13 November, when she was removed and towed back to Port Adelaide.
