Harry Butler flying his aircraft over Unley Oval

The noted aviator Captain Harry Butler flying his aircraft the 'Red Devil' over Unley Oval, South Australia. The event was Unley Aviation Day and occurred on Saturday 23rd August 1919. The Chronicle of August 30 1919 reported 'Captain Harry J. Butler provided the most entertaining display of aviation at Unley on August 23 that has ever been witnessed in this State. While his exhibition was directly intended for the many thousands of people who paid for admission to the Unley Oval and thereby helped to swell the Repatriation Fund, it was not enjoyed by them exclusively, for practically everyone within a range of several miles had his neck craned towards the sky during the time he was in the air. Captain Butler's reputation as an airman was fairly well established in this State when he recently flew over the gulf to Minlaton and back, but few people knew he was capable of such hair-raising stunts as those he provided at Unley...'
