A canoeist shooting rapids, Upper Murray. [By the shape and style of this 'canoe' it is a Folboat that Walter Hohn [Höhn] made. The photo shows the 'single man' prototype. Hohn migrated from Switzerland to Melbourne in 1928 bringing with him his Folboats and lodging patents for them. There are documents relating to Hohn Folboats in the National Archives of Australia and Australian War Memorial archives. The Army ordered about 280 for the commandos during Pacific Campaign and 10 were used in Operation Rimau, Singapore Harbour attack, in 1944. Information provided by John Hoehn, Switzerland].
