Summary

The wooden ketch 'Esther', 33 tons, in an unidentified harbour [wooden 2 mast barge, ON32135, 34 tons, 62.6 x 16.2 x 4.0. Built 1864 Joseph Graves, Southport T. auxiliary engine added 1928. Owners John W. Graves, registered Hobart: Dec. 1889 J Graves; Sept. 1897 Edward B. Goddard (who alters the vessel and lengthens it from the original 51.6 x 16.2 x 5.7) April 1902 Francis Darmody registered Port Adelaide; 1902 SW Secker and SJ Bishop. By 1919 described as a ketch and owned by SW Swiggs; 1922 HR Simpson. Register closed in March 1943 when it was reported the vessel had been broken up]

From the volume titled 'South Australian Owned Coasters, Part I'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
