Historical information

This large two-storey masonry structure with a central dome designed by Withall and Wells in High Victorian classical revival style was built to house an exhibition celebration Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1887. It remained in use for annual agricultural and horticultural shows until 1925 when the show moved to Wayville; it was then occupied by the University of Adelaide and used partly for office space. Many thousands of students sat for examinations in its spacious hall. It was demolished in 1962 and its site is now occupied by the Napier building and an underground carpark.
