Summary

James Allen's residence, Thomas St., Unley known as "Reed Garden". It is situated on the south side of the street a little east of King William Road. Frequent references to this house are made in Allen's diary. The photograph was taken in the 1860's. A note on the back of the photograph says "a somewhat four square but no doubt servicable house in Unley photographed in the 1860's. The two storey bluestone home has a return verandah with a small balcony over the front entrance. A parapet around the roof creates a flat roof appearance. Two ladies are sitting in the sunshine on this balcony. On the ground floor two ladies and sitting and a man is standing surveying the pretty garden.
