Summary

[General description] This is a single span iron bridge with stone supports, the third bridge on this site crossing the River Torrens. Several pipes run through the iron span, probably carrying water. The original Hackney Bridge was constructed by the South Australian Company so that wheat farmers from the northern side could access the South Australian Company's flour mill which stood where the Hackney Hotel was later built. (See B 364 for the second bridge and the mill) [On back of photograph] '(Reproduced in the "Observer", June 16, 1928) / Hackney Bridge / The bridge was re-decked and new handrails erected in 1938. Compare with B 7687 and B 7688'.
