Historical information

One of the soldiers is identified as 'Sergeant Tilbrook'. Research has been undertaken, but there is no indication that any Tilbrook enlisted as a sergeant. However, there are two Tilbrooks who were promoted to Sergeant: no. 2269 Eric Hammond Hanley Tilbrook and no. 2780 Hubert John Tilbrook - it is believed that this man is Hubert John Tilbrook and is seated in the middle of the front row [see 'The Observer', Saturday 2 Jul 1927, page 34, where he is pictured amongst the tennis premiers.]
