Summary

Cape Banks Lighthouse and its neat cottages, with their white picket fences, vegetable gardens and fruit trees. Dressed in their Sunday best, the families have grouped in front of their cottages. Another group of men, including one on horseback, appear in the foreground. This lighthouse was established in 1883, using the lantern from the original and defunct Cape Northumberland lighthouse. In May, 1928, it was raised to 15 metres, and the light was no longer manned. The cottages have long since been demolished. It is situated on the mainland, 25 miles up coast from Port MacDonnell.
