Summary

First ladies' hockey club (North Adelaide Hockey Club) in South Australia. Standing: l-r: J. Horn; R. Cussen; L. Waterhouse; L. Horn (umpire); H. Waterhouse; J. Waterhouse. Kneeling: Rachel Luxmore; M. Mann. Sitting: M. Law Smith; L. Ayers; M. Horn; H. Hamilton. The South Parklands of Adelaide were used by the women hockey players since 1901. Hockey was played predominantly by women until 1903. The South Australian Hockey Association was formed in 1903. Navy personnel introduced hockey to South Australia. A pre-game warm-up enabled cowpats to be picked up before the game could commence.
