Presbyterian Church

Presbyterian Church

John Knox Free Presbyterian Church, Morphett Vale. According to a researcher, the celebration of Reverend James Benny's years of service was organised in this church on his retirement in 1903. This church was built in 1856 in the gothic style with octagonal corner buttresses. The original building was constructed from freestone quarried from Myles' quarry. When the church was modified in 1876 buttresses were built to support the walls and a slate roof replaced the iron roof. The building was built by the Free Presbyterian Church who preferred not to worship in the St Andrews Presbyterian Church which was controlled by the Established Church of Scotland. See B 13391
